Basketball Recap: La Jolla Country Day Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Safiyah Sugapong and Mahlia Washington

If La Jolla Country Day was feeling good fresh off their 60-37 takedown of Bishop's last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The La Jolla Country Day Torreys fell 51-42 to the Francis Parker Lancers on Friday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lancers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 46-45 back in January.

Mahlia Washington and Safiyah Sugapong certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Washington posted 11 points, while Sugapong had 11 points. Sugapong is also on a roll when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 43% in the last three games she's played.

Francis Parker found their leader in freshman Isabella Riddle, who dropped a double-double with 24 points and 13 boards. Brianna Mendez was another key player, putting up 11 points and six rebounds.

La Jolla Country Day's record now sits at 16-10. As for Francis Parker, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 18-8.

As of now, neither La Jolla Country Day nor Francis Parker have any future games scheduled.
