Baseball Recap: Huntington Comes Up Short

Huntington had lost three straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 16-15 to make it four. They lost 11-1 to the George Washington Patriots. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Highlanders have suffered since April 30th.

Huntington saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bradley Johnson, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

As for George Washington, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 26-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games.

On George Washington's side, Eli Smith was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over six innings pitched. Smith has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in ten consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

In other batting news, Luke Gordon was incredible, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Joel Nelson was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

As of now, neither Huntington nor George Washington have any future games scheduled.
