High school football rankings: Chaminade-Madonna rises in MaxPreps Top 25 after 31-28 win over Miami Central

Chaminade-Madonna (Hollywood, Fla.) added a fifth quality win to its resume with a 31-28 victory against Central (Miami) on Friday to remain unbeaten. All five wins have come against teams in the top 100, helping the Lions improve two spots to No. 3 in this week's MaxPreps Top 25 high school football rankings.

Against Central, senior quarterback Cedrick Bailey completed 28 of 41 passes for 321 yards and four touchdowns while five-star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith hauled in nine receptions for 101 yards and two scores.

Chaminade-Madonna also has wins over No. 22 American Heritage (Plantation), Bergen Catholic (Oradell, N.J.),  Cardinal Gibbons (Fort Lauderdale) and St. Frances Academy (Baltimore).

Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.) had one of the most impressive wins last week with a dominant 63-6 victory over Saguaro (Scottsdale, Ariz.). Junior quarterback Wyatt Becker completed 18 of 22 passes for 364 yards and a school-record seven touchdowns while adding a rushing score as well. The 5-0 Trailblazers check in at No. 19 and have outscored their opposition 198-33.

No. 1 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) concluded non-league play with a hard-fought 20-7 win at St. Frances Academy (Baltimore, Md.). Nasir Wyatt and Chuck McDonald III each scored defensive touchdowns as the top-ranked Monarchs dominated on that side of the ball. They forced four turnovers and limited the Panthers to 141 total yards. The Monarchs have outscored their first five opponents 213-43 and have not trailed at any point this season. Mater Dei begins Trinity League action on Friday against Servite (Anaheim).

Centennial (Corona, Calif.) moved up four spots to No. 18 after a 42-35 win over Liberty (Peoria, Ariz.). Senior running back Cornell Hatcher Jr. rushed for 300 yards and four touchdowns. Three of his scores came in the fourth quarter after the Huskies trailed 35-21. They took their first lead with 31 seconds remaining on Hatcher's game-winning touchdown run from 13 yards.
