Baseball Recap: Wayne Comes Up Short

Wayne extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 8-23. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Man Hillbillies. The Pioneers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Hillbillies earlier this season, when they won 10-4.

Colten Heck made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Jaxon Hodge, who went 1-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

As for Man, their win bumped their record up to 11-15. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since April 22nd.

On Man's side, Noah Maynor made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Those nine strikeouts gave Maynor a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Grayson Sanders, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. Braxton Sword was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Looking ahead, Wayne will face off against Poca at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Pioneers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Dots have averaged an impressive 8.5 runs per game this season. As for Man, they will be playing at home against Tug Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Hillbillies' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season.
