Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Ava Hinrichsen and Naomi Chew Lead Castro Valley to Victory

Castro Valley was handed a 40-point loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Friday. They had just enough and edged the San Leandro Pirates out 43-40. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 46-34 back in January.

Leading Castro Valley to victory were Naomi Chew and Ava Hinrichsen. Chew went 6-for-13 en route to 15 points and eight steals, while Hinrichsen went 6-for-14 to rack up 16 points along with six rebounds and five steals. Chew has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 13 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Eden Teclemariam, who posted six points and six boards.

Castro Valley was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive contests.

Castro Valley's win bumped their record up to 9-14. As for San Leandro, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 11-12 record this season.
