Basketball Recap: Truckee Piles Up the Points Against Portola

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Truckee). They blew past the Portola Tigers, posting a 60-29 victory. This was payback for the Wolverines, who suffered a 48-27 loss the last time these two teams met.

Elsa Voegele was the offensive standout of the game as she posted 14 points along with seven boards and five blocks. Those 14 points gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Violet Euan, who put up ten points.

Portola's loss on Friday came despite strong showings from Ellie Ferris and Natalie Estrella Sanchez. Ferris scored four points in addition to 11 rebounds and five steals, while Sanchez earned 15 points. Ferris has been hot, having posted eight or more boards the last five times she's played. Alison Berg also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

Truckee is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season. As for Portola, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.

Looking ahead, Truckee and Loyalton will face off at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest, having both just played. As for Portola, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Quincy at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.
