Basketball Recap: Aptos Falls Despite Big Games from Eliya Chavez and Berkeley Ashby

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Aptos can now relate to. They took a hard 39-20 fall against the Live Oak Acorns on Saturday. The game marked the Mariners' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Despite the loss, Aptos had strong showings from Berkeley Ashby, who posted 13 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals, and Eliya Chavez, who had seven points. Ashby is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 12 games she's played.

Kat Clement was her usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double with 21 points and nine boards for Live Oak. The dominant performance also gave Clement a new career-high in shooting accuracy (67%). Aleenah Garcia was another key player, putting up seven points.

Aptos has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 14-13 record this season. The win was the third in a row for Live Oak, bringing their record for this year to 20-7.

Aptos does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Live Oak, they have already played their next game, a 52-40 defeat against Notre Dame on the 25th.
