Basketball Game Preview: Los Alamitos Griffins vs. Fountain Valley Barons

The Los Alamitos Griffins will face off against the Fountain Valley Barons at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Los Alamitos can't be too worried about heading out to take on Fountain Valley: they just beat Marina at home, who had been dominant on their own court up to that point. Everything went Los Alamitos' way against Marina on Friday as Los Alamitos made off with a 56-36 victory. The Griffins have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 matches by 20 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Fountain Valley strolled past Huntington Beach with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 52-38. Given the Barons' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 173rd, while the Oilers are ranked 370th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Fountain Valley pushed their record up to 17-9 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.0 points per game. As for Los Alamitos, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 16 games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season.

Los Alamitos skirted past Fountain Valley 53-51 in their previous meeting back in January. The rematch might be a little tougher for Los Alamitos since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
