Basketball Recap: Eastlake Comes Up Short

Eastlake was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They took a blow against the Oceanside Pirates, falling 58-31. While losing is never fun, the Titans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 958th, while the Pirates are ranked 424th).

Despite the defeat, Eastlake had strong showings from Ava Ellorin, who posted nine points and three steals, and Thea Joanne Manabat, who put up four points and three steals. Manabat is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played.

Even though they lost, Eastlake smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. This was only their 12th loss (out of 16 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.

It was another big night for Martina Griffin, who went 5 for 9 on her way to 13 points along with five rebounds and three steals for Oceanside. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaitlyn Kaye, who earned nine points and four steals.

Eastlake's loss dropped their record down to 4-15. As for Oceanside, they now have a winning record of 9-8.

Eastlake didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 46-42 defeat against Academy of Our Lady of Peace on the 22nd. Oceanside has also already played their next contest, a 70-34 loss against Torrey Pines on the 22nd.
