Softball Recap: Lincoln Southwest Takes Down Ranked Kearney

Lincoln Southwest faced Kearney in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Silver Hawks never let the Bearcats get on the board and left with a 5-0 victory. The Silver Hawks have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Bearcats, too.

The result came thanks to Maisey McCarty's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Peyton Yoder was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Taylor Siefken was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Lincoln Southwest always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kearney only posted an OBP of .160.

Lincoln Southwest pushed their record up to 20-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 8 runs. As for Kearney, their loss dropped their record down to 16-9.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Lincoln Southwest will challenge rival Pius X at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Kearney is set to face off against their familiar foe Grand Island on Thursday.
