Basketball Recap: Nebraska City Falls to Beatrice in First Game of Season

Nebraska City unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They took a 45-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Beatrice Orangemen on Thursday. The Pioneers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Orangemen apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January.

Nebraska City lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Lexi Brown, who posted ten points and seven boards. Hanna Marth was another key player, putting up eight points.

Leading Beatrice to victory were Kiley Hatcliff and Callie Schwisow. Hatcliff almost dropped a double-double with 19 points and nine rebounds, while Schwisow earned 12 points and six boards. Another player making a difference was Sophie Gleason, who had five points.

Nebraska City didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 50-24 defeat against Fort Calhoun on the 5th. As for Beatrice, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 48-20 victory against Ashland-Greenwood on the 6th.
