The Southeast Whitfield County Raiders will square off against the Christian Heritage Lions at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Southeast Whitfield County barely beat Gordon Central the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Southeast Whitfield County's pitchers stepped up to hand Gordon Central a 10-0 shutout on Wednesday. With that victory, the Raiders brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.
Tucker Townsend made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Townsend was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Southeast Whitfield County let Ethan Hampton and Mason Williams run wild. Hampton scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Williams scored two runs while going 1-for-2. The dominant performance also gave Williams a new career-high in RBI (two). Matthew Ledford was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Christian Heritage made easy work of Southeast Whitfield County on Tuesday and carried off an 11-1 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Lions.
Like Southeast Whitfield County, Christian Heritage also got a great game from a two-way player: Sawyer Corn. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Corn has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that he hit this season.
In other batting news, Jace Denson and David Person did most of the damage at the plate: Denson went 3-for-4 with three doubles, two runs, and two RBI, while Person scored two runs while going 3-for-3. Person also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jackson Locke, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Christian Heritage always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .552. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southeast Whitfield County only posted an OBP of .167.
The victory got Christian Heritage back to even at 2-2. As for Southeast Whitfield County, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Southeast Whitfield County has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Christian Heritage struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
