Softball Recap: Waverly Finds Playoff Glory Versus Hastings

With a playoff win on the line, Waverly rose to the challenge on Thursday. They blew past the Hastings Tigers 10-2. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by seven runs or more this season.

Alexis Bivens made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. Bivens was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in September.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Blakeley Meyers, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in September. Another player making a difference was Jill Hind, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.

Waverly hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in seven consecutive contests.

Waverly is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 22-11 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Hastings, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 21-12.

Coming up, Waverly will face off against Blair at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hastings does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
