The Coffee Trojans will head out to challenge the Irwin County Indians at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Coffee comes in on seven and Irwin County on 15.
While Coffee's win against Lee County wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Coffee had just enough and edged out Lee County 4-3 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Coffee has posted since August 28th.
Coffee saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Karlee Thomas, who went 1-for-3 with one run.
Meanwhile, Irwin County beat Clinch County 8-3 on Thursday.
Brooklyn Gordon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in ten consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sailor Mixon, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Brynlee Brown, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Coffee's record is now 18-5. As for Irwin County, their record now sits at 17-2.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Coffee hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .335. However, it's not like Irwin County struggles in that department as they've averaged .371. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Coffee took their win against Irwin County when the teams last played back in September of 2017 by a conclusive 13-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
