Football Recap: Desert Chapel Drops Season-High Score on San Jacinto Valley Academy

Desert Chapel scored the most points they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They fell 47-41 to the San Jacinto Valley Academy Wolves. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wolves apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Desert Chapel lost, don't look at Samuel Mourhess. Despite the final result, he threw for 306 yards and three TDs, and also punched in a pair of scores on the ground. The Eagles' leading receiver Jayvon Garcia was Mourhess' top target yet again, picking up 203 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

Desert Chapel didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Garcia.

This is the second loss in a row for Desert Chapel and nudges their season record down to 1-6. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 31.5 points over those games. As for San Jacinto Valley Academy, their win bumped their record up to 5-3.

Looking ahead, Desert Chapel will challenge Vasquez at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles' defense better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 29.9 points per game this season. As for San Jacinto Valley Academy, they will square off against Nuview Bridge at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Wolves will be up against the Knights' rather soft defense (which has allowed 39.25 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
