Basketball Recap: Rye Comes Up Short

If Rye was riding high fresh off their 53-18 takedown of Mitchell on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Thunderbolts received a blow on Saturday as they fell 44-25 to the Bennett Tigers. The defeat continues a trend for the Thunderbolts in their meetings with the Tigers: they've now lost three in a row.

Rye got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of Abrianna Chianelli and Shiloh Rutledge, who each put up seven points. Reese Simpson held things down on the boards with eight rebounds.

Emilee Venneberg went supernova For Bennett., shooting 60% from the field on her way to 22 points and seven steals. Those 22 points gave Venneberg a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Josie Ladd, who posted 12 points in addition to five boards and five steals.

Rye's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Bennett, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rye and Pueblo South will compete for holiday cheer at 7:30 p.m. on the 15th. As for Bennett, they will take on Byers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
