Basketball Recap: Costa Mesa Takes a Loss

Costa Mesa was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 40-31 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Laguna Hills Hawks. The Mustangs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hawks apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.

Despite the loss, Costa Mesa still got an impressive performance from Leilani Quero, who posted 20 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. Those seven boards gave Quero a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Myah Martinez, who put up two points along with seven steals and five boards.

Costa Mesa's defeat dropped their record down to 6-11. As for Laguna Hills, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 15-3.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Garden Grove the next time they take the court. Costa Mesa will head out to face Garden Grove at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday, while Laguna Hills will host them at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
