Softball Game Preview: South Cobb Eagles vs. Mays Raiders

The South Cobb Eagles are taking a road trip to square off against the Mays Raiders at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. South Cobb has given up an average of 13.1 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

South Cobb is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 15 runs last Wednesday, they were much more limited against Paulding County last Thursday. They lost 14-1 to the Patriots. The loss continues a trend for the Eagles in their meetings with the Patriots: they've now lost five in a row.

Meanwhile, Mays came up short against M.L. King on Thursday, falling 25-13.

Trinity Fuller was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Leah Roberts was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

South Cobb's defeat dropped their record down to 5-15. As for Mays, their loss dropped their record down to 1-12.

Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. South Cobb has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .511. However, it's not like Mays struggles in that department as they've averaged .531. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

South Cobb might still be hurting after the 11-1 defeat they got from Mays in their previous meeting back in August of 2023. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
