Basketball Recap: Sanger West Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Soha Khan and Emani Turner

If Sanger West was riding high fresh off their 44-9 takedown of Minarets last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Sanger West Hornets fell 40-30 to the Firebaugh Eagles on Tuesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Hornets in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now lost three in a row.

Despite the loss, Sanger West had strong showings from Emani Turner, who posted seven points along with 14 rebounds and three blocks, and Soha Khan, who had ten points and five rebounds. Those three blocks gave Turner a new career-high. Aleja Reed was another key player, putting up two points and four steals.

Even though they lost, Sanger West smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Sanger West now has a losing record at 9-10. As for Firebaugh, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season.

Sanger West wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 53-35 win against Justin Garza on the 9th. As for Firebaugh, they will head out to face off against Coalinga at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Coalinga is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.9 points per game this season.
