Basketball Recap: Costa Mesa Drops Highest Score of Season Against St. Genevieve

It's playoff time, and Costa Mesa had no trouble coming through when it counted. They enjoyed a cozy 65-48 win over the St. Genevieve Valiants on Thursday. The Mustangs' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Costa Mesa to victory, but perhaps none more so than Emi Kamikihara, who almost dropped a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds. That's the most boards Kamikihara has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Leilani Quero, who had 17 points and six rebounds.

Costa Mesa smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in nine consecutive matches.

Costa Mesa's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-14. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.3 points over those games. As for St. Genevieve, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-6.

Coming up, Costa Mesa will square off against Capistrano Valley Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Capistrano Valley Christian will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something Costa Mesa surely won't give up without a fight. St. Genevieve does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
