Basketball Preview: Towanda Black Knights vs. Hughesville Spartans
Towanda has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Hughesville Spartans at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Monday, Towanda strolled past the Griffins with points to spare, taking the game 47-33. The victory was just what Towanda needed coming off of a 58-25 loss in their prior game.
Even though Hughesville has not done well against the RED TORNADOES recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Hughesville came out on top against the RED TORNADOES by a score of 49-36. Given Hughesville's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 77th, while the RED TORNADOES are ranked 312th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Alli Anstadt was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 26 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Ava Snyder, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds and five blocks.
The win got Towanda back to even at 5-5. As for Hughesville, their victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-3.
Towanda came up short against the Spartans in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 44-36. Can Towanda avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
