The Lovington Wildcats will venture away from home to challenge the Mayfield Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Lovington is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 28.3 points per game this season.

Lovington is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Artesia, who was ranked sixth at the time (Lovington was ranked 20th). The Wildcats were outmatched by the Bulldogs and fell 56-23. The Wildcats were down 35-15 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Lovington's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Elijah Rivero, who gained 109 total yards and a touchdown, and Kylan Spencer, who threw for 167 yards and two touchdowns. Rivero also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making five total tackles (1.0 for loss) and defending one pass.

Meanwhile, the third road game was the charm for Mayfield, as they earned their first away win of the season. They blew past Deming 55-35 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Trojans have posted against the Wildcats since March 20, 2021.

Lovington's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Mayfield, the win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-4.

Lovington and Mayfield were almost perfectly matched up in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, but Lovington suffered an agonizing 50-49 defeat. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
