After both having extra time off, the Homestead Highlanders and the Cedarburg Bulldogs will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
While Homestead's win against West Bend East wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Highlanders sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over the Suns on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Highlanders.
Homestead took West Bend East into a fifth set where they got it done with a three-point win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 22-25, 25-22, 25-16, 23-25, 15-12.

Lauren Fitzgibbon and Kennedy Klueger were among the main playmakers for Homestead as the former had 15 digs and one assist and the latter had 14 digs and one assist. That's the most digs Klueger has posted since back in August.
Homestead was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 14 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in 12 consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Cedarburg posted their closest win since August 30th on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Grafton 3-2. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Black Hawks recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.
Cedarburg had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 23-25, 20-25, 25-13, 25-17, 18-16.
Homestead better focus on containing Emme Marshall and Claire Vanden Berg as the pair were huge in Cedarburg's win. Marshall had 12 digs, while Vanden Berg had 12 digs.
Homestead's record now sits at 18-11. As for Cedarburg, their record is now 26-10.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's matchup: Homestead has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 8.7 aces per game. However, it's not like Cedarburg struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Homestead couldn't quite get it done against Cedarburg when the teams last played back in September as they fell 3-1. Can the Highlanders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
