Soccer Game Preview: Westlake Charter vs. Cristo Rey

The Westlake Charter Explorers will face off against the Cristo Rey Saints at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Westlake Charter is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over Western Sierra Collegiate Academy. Winning may never get old, but Westlake Charter sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Meanwhile, Cristo Rey faced Leroy Greene Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Saints blew past the Lions 4-1. The win was nothing new for Cristo Rey as they're now sitting on nine straight.

Cristo Rey's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 28 goals over those seven matchups. As for Westlake Charter, their victory bumped their record up to 13-0-4.

Westlake Charter was able to grind out a solid win over Cristo Rey in their previous matchup back in February, winning 2-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Explorers since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
