Softball Recap: Gilmer Takes a Loss

Gilmer fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Chattooga on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Indians by a score of 4-3.

Braley Stewart spent all 7.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Mary Grace Jones made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases and two runs.

Gilmer dropped their record down to 3-2 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Chattooga, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Looking ahead, Gilmer will look to defend their home field on Monday against Ridgeland at 6:00 p.m. The contest will give the Bobcats their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Chattooga, they are taking a road trip to challenge Mt. Zion at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
