Baseball Game Preview: Southwest DeKalb Panthers vs. St. Pius X Catholic Golden Lions

Southwest DeKalb hasn't had much luck against St. Pius X Catholic recently, but that could start to change on Monday. Southwest DeKalb will host St. Pius X Catholic at 5:00 p.m. Southwest DeKalb is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.

It was a proper cat-fight when Southwest DeKalb took on Tucker on Friday. Southwest DeKalb had just enough and edged out Tucker 8-7. That's two games straight that the Panthers have won by just one run.

Kameron Scott made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Allister Jennings, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. Southwest DeKalb is 5-1 when Jennings posts two or more runs, but 6-8 otherwise.

Southwest DeKalb hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tucker struck out nine times.

Meanwhile, St. Pius X Catholic faced Marist in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. St. Pius X Catholic walked away with a 6-1 victory over Marist.

St. Pius X Catholic's win was their 14th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Southwest DeKalb, their win bumped their record up to 11-9.

Southwest DeKalb came up short against St. Pius X Catholic when the teams last played back in March of 2022, falling 8-3. Can Southwest DeKalb avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
