Football Game Preview: Seguin Matadors vs. Smithson Valley Rangers

Seguin hasn't had much luck against Smithson Valley recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Matadors will look to defend their home field against the Rangers at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in Seguin's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.

On Friday, Seguin ended up a good deal behind Pieper and lost 56-42. While losing is never fun, the Matadors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 336th, while the Warriors are ranked 158th).

Seguin might have lost, but man, Corey Dailey was a machine: he threw for 379 yards and four TDs, and also rushed for 59 yards. With that strong performance, Dailey is now averaging an impressive 311.5 passing yards per game.

Meanwhile, Smithson Valley entered their tilt with Wagner on Friday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They took their game with ease, bagging a 48-7 victory over the Thunderbirds. The result was nothing new for the Rangers, who have now won four contests by 27 points or more so far this season.

Seguin's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Smithson Valley, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.

Seguin was dealt a bruising 47-7 defeat at the hands of Smithson Valley in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Matadors were down 38-7.
