Football Recap: Silver Creek Comes Up Short

Silver Creek started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Leigh. They lost 35-14 to the Longhorns on Friday. The Raiders were down 35-7 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Although Silver Creek took the loss, they still got scores from Jordan Thompson and Tyler Nguyen.

Blake Zanger had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 139 yards and three scores on only nine carries for Leigh. Zanger's rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his seventh straight game with at least 106 rushing yards dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlie Lyon, who threw for 213 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 78.6% of his passes.

Silver Creek's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Leigh, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-1.

Coming up, Silver Creek will take on Gilroy at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Raiders will be up against the Mustangs' rather soft defense (which has allowed 35.5 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Leigh, after each having a week off, they and Christopher will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:15 p.m. on October 9. The game will give the Longhorns their first taste of in-conference action this season.
