Baseball Game Preview: Gainesville Red Elephants vs. Seckinger Jaguars

For the second straight game, Gainesville will face off against Seckinger. Gainesville will welcome Seckinger at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The last three games Gainesville has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Gainesville is returning to their home field after beating Seckinger on theirs, despite the fact Seckinger has dominated at home this season. Gainesville narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Seckinger 3-1.

For Seckinger's part, Harry Pirkle spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up nine Ks. That's the most strikeouts Pirkle has posted since back in February.

At the plate, Seckinger saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sam Melanson, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.

Gainesville pushed their record up to 7-12 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 9.5 hits in those games compared to only 5.4 in the others. As for Seckinger, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-6.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. However, it's not like Seckinger struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.4 strikeouts.
