Baseball Recap: Lafayette Extends Winning Streak to Six

Lafayette waltzed into their match on Tuesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They came out on top against the Fort White Indians by a score of 9-4. That's more bragging rights for the Hornets, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Gavin Barnes looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Garrett Taylor was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three doubles, two runs, and one RBI. Those three doubles gave him a new career-high. Trevor Byrd was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Lafayette hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in four consecutive games.

Lafayette pushed their record up to 6-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Fort White, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lafayette will challenge Trenton at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Trenton's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Lafayette's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Fort White, they will face off against Branford at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
