Baseball Recap: Centennial Takes a Loss

Centennial was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Santiago Sharks. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Sharks this season, with their most recent defeat being a 13-4 loss on Wednesday.

Centennial got a good showing from Evan Pe?a, who tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Pe?a has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Jesse Mendoza was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Centennial's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 9-16 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Simpson, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles and one run.

Centennial's defeat dropped their record down to 11-17. As for Santiago, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 18-10.

As of now, neither Centennial nor the Sharks have any future games scheduled.
