Basketball Recap: Ramona Takes a Loss

After flying high against La Sierra last Thursday, Ramona came back down to earth. The Ramona Rams were outmatched by the Downey Vikings and fell 62-27.

Ramona lost on Saturday despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Olivia Molina, who posted 11 points and seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Diana Najera, who put up six points and six boards.

Natalie Gomez continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Downey, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 21 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Gomez a new career-high in boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Amanda Velazquez, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.

Ramona's defeat dropped their record down to 19-5. As for Downey, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 13-12.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ramona will square off against Norte Vista at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing isn't great for Norte Vista: they have been struggling with four straight losses at home, while Ramona has snatched up seven consecutive wins on the road. As for Downey, they will face off against Lynwood at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
