Texas high school football: Top 25 scoreboard

North Crowley looks to slow down DeSoto while Cedar Hill tangles with Allen in another big time matchup.

This week's high school football schedule in Texas is headlined by a matchup between two of the top five teams in the state according to the MaxPreps computer rankings.

Defending Class 6A Division 2 state champion DeSoto, ranked No. 2 and coming off a 70-0 dismantling of Creekside (Fairburn, Ga.), plays host to No. 5 North Crowley (Fort Worth). DeSoto has won 23 in a row and has put up 50 or more points in 12 of those contests.

North Crowley beat Lancaster 29-21 last week at the Jerry Jones Classic behind the play of senior quarterback Chris Jimerson (North Texas commit), who completed 16 of 27 pass attempts for 212 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for 67 yards on seven attempts.

In another matchup of heavy hitters, No. 14 Cedar Hill travels to No. 15 Allen. The two programs have combined for eight state titles in the 2000s and both are coming off impressive wins as Cedar Hill beat Midlothian 40-7 while Allen blasted Midland Legacy (Midland) 61-0.

Finally, No. 1 Duncanville gets its campaign underway against No. 13 South Oak Cliff (Dallas). The Panthers have won 29 of their last 30 games and back-to-back Class 6A Division 1 state titles.
