Basketball Recap: Pilar Carrera's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Southwest SD over O'farrell Charter

If Southwest SD was feeling good fresh off their 52-27 takedown of Southwest EC last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Southwest SD Raiders fell to the O'Farrell Charter Falcons 45-39. The Raiders were not able to make up for their loss to the Falcons from their previous meeting back in January of 2024.

Southwest SD's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Pilar Carrera, who posted 15 points. Another player making a difference was Jazlyn Martinez, who scored ten points.

O'Farrell Charter was led to victory by Joniah Cashwell and Liona Rusom. Cashwell made all 6 shots she took to post 14 points, while Rusom made all 5 shots she took for 14 points. That's the most points Cashwell has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Ty'Reiona WashingTon, who earned nine points.

Southwest SD has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-6 record this season. As for O'Farrell Charter, they moved to 8-6 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Southwest SD has already played their next game (against Castle Park), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. O'Farrell Charter wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 60-31 loss against Tri-City Christian on the 13th.
