Basketball Recap: Caleb Nixon's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Kings Mountain over Lake Norman Charter

Kings Mountain suffered their closest loss since December 30, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Lake Norman Charter Knights by a score of 69-66. The Mountaineers' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

Kings Mountain lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Caleb Nixon, who shot 44% from the field on his way to 18 points and five boards. He has also also been stellar as far as three-point shooting accuracy is concerned: he's posted one of at least 40% every time he's hit the court this season. Another player making a difference was Ethan Daniel, who went 6-for-11 en route to 12 points and six rebounds.

Collin McConneyhead had another great game (as he tends to do), shooting 48% from the field to rack up 29 points along with seven boards and six steals for Lake Norman Charter. That makes it three consecutive games in which McConneyhead has scored at least a third of the Knights' points. Kameron Davis was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Kings Mountain's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Lake Norman Charter, their victory ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-5.

Kings Mountain and Crest will compete for holiday cheer at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. The contest will give the Mountaineers their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Lake Norman Charter, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 63-54 win against Lincolnton on the 10th.
