Softball Recap: Gretna Comes Up Short in High-Profile Contest with Bellevue East

Gretna faced Bellevue East in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Dragons fell just short of the Chieftains by a score of 3-2. The Dragons were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Chieftains apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2022.

Taelyn Rupiper was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Megan Marshall was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

Gretna's defeat dropped their record down to 17-6. As for Bellevue East, they pushed their record up to 15-8 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home.

Gretna didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 2-1 victory against Lincoln East on the 20th. As for Bellevue East, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 4-1 win against Omaha Westside on the 20th.
