Basketball Recap: Franklin's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Saturday

It was a good run, but Franklin unfortunately witnessed the end of their eight-game winning streak on Saturday. They lost 67-45 to the Salpointe Catholic Lancers. That makes it the first time this season the Cougars have let down their home crowd.

Despite the loss, Franklin had strong showings from Allison De La O, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 17 points and five boards, and Emma Balsiger, who went 7 of 12 en route to 19 points. The match was Balsiger's fourth in a row with at least ten points.

Franklin's defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 14-4. As for Salpointe Catholic, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-1.

Franklin and Salpointe Catholic should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in their respective state rankings. Franklin (ranked 132nd) will meet Coronado (ranked 868th) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Similarly, Salpointe Catholic (ranked fourth) will meet Nogales (ranked 31st) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
