Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Layla Hernandez and Sydney Teoh Lead St. Francis to Victory

St. Francis's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They snuck past the Davis Sr. Blue Devils with a 60-56 victory. This was a revenge game for the Troubadours: when they faced off against the Blue Devils back in January, they had to take a 63-41 loss.

St. Francis was led to victory by Sydney Teoh and Layla Hernandez. Teoh went 8-for-18 en route to 26 points and six rebounds, while Hernandez went 7-for-9 on her way to 14 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. With that strong performance, Teoh is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Tayli Paeu-Lindgren, who posted eight points along with 11 rebounds and four steals.

St. Francis smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in five consecutive games.

Several Blue Devils players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Lorelei Nachman, who went 7-for-14 to rack up 19 points. What's more, Nachman also posted a 50% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's achieved since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Izzy Cherry, who earned ten points in addition to eight boards and three steals.

St. Francis' record is now 12-16. As for Davis Sr., their defeat dropped their record down to 16-12.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. St. Francis will face off against Vista del Lago at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Davis Sr., they will take on Antelope at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
