Softball Game Preview: Rutland Hurricanes vs. Peach County Trojans

The Rutland Hurricanes will head out to square off against the Peach County Trojans at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Rutland can't be too happy about their upcoming road game considering what happened when they opened their season away from home on Wednesday. They lost 15-0 to Northside. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Northside hit Peach County with a four-run fourth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Trojans came up short against the Patriots, falling 11-1.

Shaniyah Gibson put in work while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and seven unearned) runs off two hits. Gibson was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double.

Gibson wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Saniya Martin, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles.

Rutland might still be hurting after the 17-2 loss they got from Peach County in their previous matchup back in August of 2024. Can the Hurricanes avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
