Basketball Recap: Kalli Smith's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Foothill over Chico

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Foothill can now relate to. They took a 67-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Chico Panthers on Thursday. The Cougars just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

Foothill's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kalli Smith, who went 7-for-13 on her way to 16 points and three steals. Smith continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Mj O'Rorke also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Kayleigh Solano had an outrageously good game for Chico as she almost dropped a double-double with 23 points and nine rebounds. Solano is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 53% in the last four games she's played. Ellie Harrison was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with nine points and nine boards.

Foothill now has a losing record of 13-14. As for Chico, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 16-12.

Foothill does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Chico, they have already played their next matchup, a 64-58 defeat against Shasta on the 25th.
