Basketball Game Preview: Slippery Rock Rockets vs. Laurel Spartans

The Slippery Rock Rockets will challenge the Laurel Spartans on Saturday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Last Tuesday, Slippery Rock lost to Franklin at home by a 55-39 margin. The Rockets haven't had much luck with the Knights recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.

Despite the loss, Slippery Rock got top-tier performance from Cj Sabo, who went 10 for 22 on her way to 20 points and eight rebounds.

Meanwhile, Laurel was beaten by Rochester 62-29 on Thursday. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 432nd, while the Rams are ranked 205th).

Laurel has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season. As for Slippery Rock, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-3.

Slippery Rock was taken down by Laurel 54-27 in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. Can Slippery Rock avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
