Basketball Recap: La Costa Canyon Snaps Eight-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

It was a good run, but La Costa Canyon unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell to the Rancho Buena Vista Longhorns 56-51. The Mavericks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Longhorns apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2016.

La Costa Canyon's loss came despite strong showings from Keani Brown and Izzy Alexander. Brown went 7 for 13 en route to 15 points and six steals, while Alexander posted 16 points in addition to five assists and five steals. The contest was Brown's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylin Pollard, who went 5 of 12 on her way to 14 points.

Camille Dake was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 29 points and 12 rebounds for Rancho Buena Vista. The dominant performance gave Dake a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Arika Gonzales, who scored 11 points.

La Costa Canyon's defeat ended an eight-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 9-9. As for Rancho Buena Vista, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-6.

La Costa Canyon will take on Carlsbad at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Rancho Buena Vista, they will square off against Oceanside at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Rancho Buena Vista's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three games.
