Baseball Recap: Mapleton Mounties vs. Crestview Cougars
Mapleton had lost nine straight at home, but on Friday they dropped down to 2-18 to make it ten. They came up short against the Crestview Cougars, falling 21-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-5 back in April.
Ethan Dennison was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with three RBI.
As for Crestview, the victory snapped their losing streak at five games and leaves them with a 9-9 record. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Crestview's side, Colton Ernandes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, Crestview got a massive performance out of Carson Keener, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Keener has become a key player for the Cougars: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 7-8 otherwise. Drew Spoerr was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs and three RBI.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mapleton will venture away from home to take on Western Reserve at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Crestview, they will head out to challenge Shelby at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
