Recap: Lincoln Fighting Zebras vs. Ponderosa Bruins
After a string of 13 wins, the Lincoln Fighting Zebras's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They took a 58-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of Ponderosa. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Lincoln has scored all season.
Lincoln lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Taylor Hodge, who scored 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Maya Hodge, who scored 11 points.
Ponderosa's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sammie Porter led the charge by scoring 14 points along with five assists and two steals. Another player making a difference was Brooklynn Nordquist, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Lincoln's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 21-4. As for Ponderosa, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 20-7 record this season.
Lincoln will head out on the road to square off against West Park at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Lincoln is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than West Park in California (Lincoln is ranked 182nd, while West Park is ranked 454th). As for Ponderosa, they have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Nevada Union at 7:30 p.m. on February 8th. Hopefully Ponderosa focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Tuesday.
