Basketball Recap: Deer Valley Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Deer Valley had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They came within four points of losing the streak, but they secured a 67-63 W against the San Leandro Pirates. The score was all tied up 27-27 at the break, but the Wolverines were the better team in the second half.

Deer Valley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ignacio Powell led the charge by dropping a double-double with 15 points and 12 boards. That's the most points Powell has posted since back in January. Another player making a difference was Marcellis Thomas, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 16 rebounds.

Deer Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Deer Valley now has a winning record of 4-3. As for San Leandro, their defeat was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 4-1.

Looking ahead, Deer Valley will be home for the holidays to greet Emerald at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for San Leandro, they will take on Redwood at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
