Baseball Recap: Piedmont Academy Takes a Loss

Piedmont Academy lost against First Presbyterian Day on Tuesday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Cougars fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 5-4. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Zach Simmons was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Mason Tumlin was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Piedmont Academy's loss dropped their record down to 11-10. As for First Presbyterian Day, they are on a roll lately: they've won 19 of their last 20 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-3 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Piedmont Academy will take on rival Tattnall Square Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Cougars 4, the Trojans 4.1) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, First Presbyterian Day is set to square off against their familiar foe John Milledge Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
