Preview: Ellwood City Wolverine vs. Hopewell Vikings
The Ellwood City Wolverine will head out on the road to face off against the Hopewell Vikings at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopewell took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Ellwood City, who comes in off a win.
Last Monday, Ellwood City didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Portersville Christian, but they still walked away with a 58-54 victory. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Ellwood City.
Ellwood City's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kayla Jones, who scored 20 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Jones has scored at least 25% of Ellwood City's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Claire Noble, who scored 18 points.
Meanwhile, Hopewell had to start their season on the road on Friday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They took a 50-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of Eden Christian Academy.
Ellwood City now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Hopewell, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.
Ellwood City was able to grind out a solid victory over Hopewell in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, winning 45-36. The rematch might be a little tougher for Ellwood City since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
