Baseball Recap: St. Francis Takes a Loss

St. Francis had lost three straight at home, but on Monday they dropped down to 15-13 to make it four. They fell just short of the Montini Catholic Broncos by a score of 6-5. That's two games in a row now that the Spartans have lost by just one run.

St. Francis got a good showing from Peter Solloway, who struck out nine batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Solloway has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, St. Francis saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chase Grigonis, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

As for Montini Catholic, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games.

On Montini Catholic's side, Robert Sansone looked comfortable as he struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Those nine strikeouts gave Sansone a new career-high.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on John Louise, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Kameron Cox, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple.

While St. Francis had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
