Basketball Recap: Patrick Henry Comes Up Short

Patrick Henry lost against Christian back in November of 2022 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Patrick Henry Patriots were dealt a 71-31 loss at the hands of the Christian Patriots. While losing is never fun, Patrick Henry can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 563rd, while Christian is ranked 224th).

Patrick Henry's loss came despite strong showings from Kimora Nears and Ayla Collins. Nears dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Collins posted eight points and seven boards. Nears has been hot, having posted ten or more rebounds the last five times she's played.

Even though they lost, Patrick Henry smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

Christian's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Leah Speers, who almost dropped a double-double on 23 points and nine steals. The dominant performance gave Speers a new career-high in steals. Jazmyn Bugg was another key player, putting up 17 points along with eight boards and five assists.

With the defeat, Patrick Henry broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 12-5. As for Christian, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 12-4.

Patrick Henry will venture away from home to take on Del Lago Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Patrick Henry is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.4 points per game this season. As for Christian, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Point Loma at 6:00 p.m. Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six contests -- so hopefully Point Loma likes a good challenge.
