Baseball Recap: Birch Run Panthers vs. Caro Tigers
Birch Run extended their losing streak to four on Wednesday, dropping them down to 12-19. They lost 11-1 to the Caro Tigers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-4 on Wednesday.
Birch Run saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Player #2, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
As for Caro, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 17-9. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by seven runs or more this season.
On Caro's side, Xander Grice made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Grice has posted since back in April. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Caro's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 8-9 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Max Grice, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Trentin Hessling, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Birch Run will head out to challenge Mt. Morris at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Caro, they will take on Lapeer at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
